March is Whio Awareness month, and this is a great opportunity to learn more about this endangered and iconic native bird via the Whio Forever programme.

Win a Whio Family Adventure

Genesis are spreading the word about the whio via their Facebook page. Comment on the Whio Winter Adventure competition post, telling Genesis who you would take on a whio winter adventure and why. You’ll go in the draw to win a trip* for four including a guided whio walk, either four one day ski passes or four Gondola Sky Waka passes at Mt Ruapehu courtesy of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, four passes for a Family Floats Rafting experience with Tongariro River Rafting, as well as flights to Taupo and accommodation in Turangi. Colouring competition

The ever popular whio colouring competition is back, with junior, senior and open categories. You can have fun learning about the whio and go in the draw to win one of three Whio Prize packs, including whio Honeywraps, whio toys and a whio children’s book. Whio Forever Facebook

The Whio Forever team will be keeping you posted on activities throughout the month on their Facebook page and also giving you the chance to win awesome prizes including Allbirds shoes and whio Honeywraps.

Teaching resources

The Whio Forever programme has Unit Plans for Years 1-4 and Years 5-8 and also recently developed teacher activities that are linked to the new digital technology curriculum. You can have your students drawing and coding with whio, creating a whio algorithm and doing animation and stop motion. To download the resources click here.
