Paparangi School - Wellington City - 4 kw

Paparangi School is the best little country school in the city. We are surrounded by bush, have lovely open fields to play on and are next to the gully running from Seton Nossiter Park which leads to many bush walks. There are around 180 children at our school so everyone knows everyone and it’s just great to know every child by name.

Within our safe caring environment we challenge each individual student through a range of stimulating learning opportunities to become confident enthusiastic achievers.

We have been an Enviro-School for many years and are a Silver awarded Enviro-School. In our school we have many sustainable practices including composting, worm farming, recycling, power ranging, gardening and now we can add solar power. We also strongly advocate zero waste lunch boxes. 

Last year in 2013 we learned about a great opportunity to become a Schoolgen School. The senior children worked hard to make a movie to go with our application. We busily painted props, talked to every class about solar power and took a photo of the whole school looking smart in our sun hats. We got so interested that the whole school studied solar power in Term 1 2014.

This is a fantastic next step on our environmental journey. Who knows where it will lead!
