Maeroa Intermediate are delighted to be one of the schools fortunate enough to be part of the Schoolgen programme.

We have become increasingly aware of the need to teach our students about environmental awareness and ways in which we can each reduce our usage of resource - from paper to electricity. We became involved first in the Enviro-schools project and when the opportunity to apply for the Schoolgen programme arose, it seemed a logical step. Our students already see solar power in use heating the school swimming pool. Now, with the installation of photovoltaic panels, they are able to see another form of energy in use. With the information being available through the website, students are able to look at the use of power and relate this to daily activity.

With the associated teaching resource that is provided as part of the programme, students have learned considerably more about energy resource and how it can be managed. We consider ourselves fortunate to be part of this programme which adds to our work in teaching our students ways in which they can change their impact on the environment.
