Greenhithe Primary School - North Shore - 2 kw
Greenhithe Primary school joined the Enviroschools Programme in late 2005 and gained a Bronze Enviroschools award in 2006 for its work towards a sustainable future. Every class has contributed to a Vision Map to guide the school on this journey. The school Envirogroup, the All Greens, has run a waste reduction campaign and this year junior classes audited waste to see what improvements could be made. The first Greenhithe School walking school bus was launched in 2006 as part of its Travelwise plan.
An important part of this journey towards sustainability are the 2 kilowatt solar panel array installed on the roof of the school's library. The solar PV panels provide an opportunity for the students to learn about electricity and renewable energy as well as provide the school with the ability to generate a portion of their electricity from a carbon neutral source.
