Brooklyn Primary School - Wellington City - 6 kW
Brooklyn School is a Wellington suburban primary school, catering for students from years 1-8. Our school is situated in close proximity to local reserves and the Brooklyn wind turbine. We are a sustainability and future focused school, taking pride in the local environment around our community. We regularly plant native trees and help maintain the bush tracks in the reserves close to our school, and one of our Yr 8 leadership teams has recently implemented a litter-less lunch policy across the school.
We became a Schoolgen school in 2014, and after the installation of our 6 kW solar panel array we had a big celebration to kick off our introduction to the Schoolgen program. Our ‘Green Team’ checks our schools energy savings weekly and also checks how energy efficient each class is in our school. As teachers, we aim to use the Schoolgen program to teach students about energy sustainability, as well as providing a real world context to enrich our teaching across the curriculum.
