Aokautere School - Palmerston North - 2 kw

Aokautere School Is a situated between Palmerston North and Ashhurst on Highway 57. The current roll is 85 students. The students are a mix of town and rural children. There is a strong rural feeling within the school community.

We have been working on environmental activities and all of the classes have gardens they look after and develop. We are raising plants from seeds in our greenhouse and have working worm farms. We recycle paper and card and have planted native trees in the grounds. Our ‘Bush’ area has seating and becomes an ‘outdoor classroom’ when the weather permits. We encourage our children to consider their impact on the environment and that what they do to help the environment is ‘making a difference’.

We are excited to be part of the Schoolgen programme and being able to see the energy we are generating from our solar panels.
