School-gen + Mind Lab Kids join forces

To help put kiwi kids’ energy to good use, the Genesis School-gen programme is partnering with Mind Lab Kids.  Primary school kids all over New Zealand will have FREE access from now and over summer to fun experiments, challenges and lightbulb moments to get them creating and learning from home.

Developed by educators, kids will have access to a safe online space to create, innovate and share their creations.  It’s super easy for kids to do.  First, they watch the challenge set by the Mind Lab Kids educators, then hunt around the house for the items they need and finally they record themselves completing the challenge and upload to the site.

Getting kids started is as simple as registering on Mind Lab Kids.

Free access for NZ teachers

School-gen is giving teachers free access to Mind Lab Kids Classroom from now until August and with heaps of creative experiments to challenge your students, it makes planning class activities or homework easy.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Go to Mind Lab Kids and click on For School in the top navigation bar, then choose Subscribe/Sign up to create a Teacher account. You’ll need a profile pic and your teacher registration number to complete the sign-up process.
  2. Click on +Create Activity (top right navigation bar) and then choose up to 3 challenges as part of one activity. Then click on Next Step and name your activity, your class and include any instructions for students. A Create activity button will appear below the visuals of the challenges you have chosen. Click on this and then on the Share Activity button to get a URL you can email or share with your students.
  3. If your students have a Mind Lab Kids account they can get started straight away. If not, they will need to register. It will ask for their parents email address, however if they use your address you will be sent the email to verify their registration which will speed up the process.
  4. Once the students have completed their challenges they can upload a pic or video for you to view by clicking on Solutions in Mind Lab Kids Classroom.
