Vortex in a bottle

A vortex is made from particles, all rotating in a circular motion. Moving particles of air, water and wind can create vortexes. In nature, vortexes can occur as cyclones, tornados, waterspouts and ocean whirlpools.

This resource explores circular motion and centripetal force. Students are learning to describe motion and vortexes and discover how they occur in nature. This hands-on resource allows students to create their own vortex in a bottle and see the water particles moving in circular motion.
