Energy efficient lighting

Pūrama hihi pōkākā

LED (light emitting diode) light bulbs can use up to 80% less electricity than a standard light bulb whilst producing the same amount of light. LED light bulbs are more expensive than a typical incandescent bulb however, LED light bulbs can last up to 100,000 hours compared to 1000 hours that standard light bulbs are made to last.

This resource encourages students to think about the pros and cons of the different types of light bulbs and understand energy efficiency. They will investigate the difference between the light bulbs and be able to recognise what types are used within their school and homes.
