Schoolgen Teacher Support
Supporting teachers and schools in their participation in the Schoolgen programme is very important to Genesis Energy and we believe key to the success of Schoolgen.
Genesis Energy has appointed Maggie Twaddle as our full-time Schoolgen Environmental Educator to achieve this aim.
Maggie is an experienced teacher and primary school principal who has a passion for environmental sustainability. As a principal over the past ten years Maggie has been involved in designing school buildings and creating special school environments as well as developing environmental programmes in the schools she has worked in. Maggie has played a lead role in the development of the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate in New Zealand which has inquiry learning at the heart of the programme.
Schools that have received the PV panels are supported by Genesis Energy to become lead Schoolgen schools in their area and receive the following support:
- Establishment of a student lead team and lead teacher to drive the school's involvement in Schoolgen
- Annual staff meeting to help the teachers unpack the Schoolgen teaching resources
- Ongoing assistance from the Genesis Energy to support the school's participation in Schoolgen
Genesis Energy recognises that there are lots of schools in New Zealand that may not have been selected for the photovoltaic system through Schoolgen, but are still doing amazing things in the classroom with the Schoolgen teaching resources - and we want to celebrate that!!
So if you have any interesting stories or ideas you want to share with us and other schools please let us know!
Email support is also provided for those schools that are using the Schoolgen teaching resources and website without having the solar panels installed at their school.
Any queries about the learning activities on the website or about how Schoolgen links with the new New Zealand Curriculum can be directed to Maggie - maggie.twaddle@genesisenergy.co.nz or info@schoolgen.co.nz
