How the Resources Work
The Schoolgen activities were developed by teachers and education advisors to support teachers and students to learn about solar energy, energy efficiency and the social and political context for renewable energy sources.
The activities are cross-curricular and cover curriculum levels 1 to 8. The activities have been created for specific age appropriate curriculum levels, but teachers can easily adapt them to suit the learning needs of their students.
The activities are based on the following achievement aims from the curriculum:
"It involves generating and testing ideas, gathering evidence - including by making observations, carrying out investigations and modeling and communicating and debating with others - in order to develop scientific knowledge, understanding and explanations."
"By studying science, students: use scientific knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about communication, application and implications of science as these relate to their own lives and cultures and to the sustainability of the environment."
"Students will develop their knowledge of the nature of resources and of the ways people use them. Students will learn that resources may be considered renewable or non-renewable and that the management of resources involves choices." (Social Studies)
