Tirimoana Primary School
Tirimoana Primary School is a co-educational, contributing, urban, state primary school located in the Te Atatu South suburb of Waitakere City in the West Auckland metropolitan area. The school, which opened in 1969, roll averages 580 students each year, of which the majority is New Zealand European, with many other ethnic groups represented.
Tirimoana School is also an Enviro School, with an emphasis on Environmental Education and environmentally sustainable practices. We are committed to a partnership between students, staff and the community to develop awareness of environmental and conservation issues. We aim to implement a whole school commitment to fostering inclusion and respect for each other and our environment. As part of this approach we aim to develop more sustainable use of resources in our school community.
In 2003 the school was awarded a Bronze Enviro Award from the Auckland Regional Council. This was followed by a Silver Award in 2005. Our current goal is to win a Green-Gold award.
An important part of our school commitment to environmental sustainability is the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on our school hall roof to generate electricity on a renewable basis.
"We are enormously appreciative of the generous support from Genesis Energy in helping our school achieve its environmental goals", says principal Peter Kaiser.
