Raglan Area School

Raglan Area School Logo

Raglan Area School is a bronze award Enviroschool. We are also one of the first pilot Enviroschools. We are currently striving for the silver award.

Environmental consciousness is one of the things that defines the Raglan community. We as a school are trying our best to have this consiousness flow throughout our school community also.

Our kura is involved in many environmental initiatives from year 1-13. A few of these are the recent Maori immersion unit's production in the town hall named Tawhiri's Revenge - The Rise of Bro Lution, King of Pollution.

We are also part of the Clean up New Zealand yearly rubbish collection, Coast to Coast, and have attended Enviroschool's Youth Jam for the two years it has been running, and presented in 2008. We teach environmental science throughout the school, at all levels, as an integrating strand. A particular challenge for us is to provide a 'standard' across the full range of schooling, years 0-13.

Gaining these solar panels from Genesis Energy makes us very proud and excited about the learning opportunities that come with it. The resources meet the challenge for a broad platform of education across the whole school. We also see it as a visual way to display our environmental consciousness to the rest of the community. Importantly it models alternatives to our students and community at a time of intense debate around renewable/sustainable energy sources, especially wind farming.
