Eastern Hutt School

Eastern Hutt School is very proud to have the opportunity to be involved in the Schoolgen Project. We are a large school in the heart of Lower Hutt City, and have a major focus on the environment and education for sustainability. We have approximately 480 families in our direct school community who are influenced by our environmental programmes.

In 2006 we gained a bronze enviro award and have continued to promote education for sustainability initiatives throughout our school and wider community. We have been working hard to reduce the non-reusable plastic in our school and we recycle plastic, glass and paper. In addition to this, 2009 plans include creating our own kitchen garden, composting and the exciting installation of our solar panels. With the support of our Enviro Schools Facilitator, as well as a local Education for Sustainability Cluster Group, teachers are involved in ongoing professional development to ensure programmes are planned in ways that promote Education for Sustainability. The installation of solar panels will form the basis of many of our programmes.

At Eastern Hutt School we aim to take every opportunity to teach our students the importance of caring for the environment so future generations can continue to enjoy our natural environment. We are very excited at the opportunities provided in the Schoolgen Project.
