A key focus of learning at Vardon School is developing learners and citizens with a futures perspective. Central to this is an environmental focus. Sustainable, environmentally friendly power sources are integral to New Zealand's future as a clean-green country and so being able present the children with the ultimate example of safe, sustainable power generation is an extremely powerful learning opportunity.

The instillation of the solar panels at Vardon School has provided the motivation for a huge amount of learning about solar energy and electricity generation. We have also been able to integrate Tikanga Nga Kaupapa Maori, Health, ICT, literacy and numeracy elements into the learning based around the solar panels. To support our learning the Schoolgen website has provided us with a wealth of resources that relate directly to the revised curriculum.

Not only are Vardon School students brilliant learners but they are also brilliant teachers and we are hoping that our school can become an important resource for other schools wanting to learn about sustainable energy and solar power. We look forward to developing our partnerships with schools all over the world to strengthen our learning about this powerful resource available to everyone on our planet.
