Thorndon Primary School - Wellington City - 4 kw

Thorndon Primary is a Wellington inner city school with a long history, having been first established in 1852. We have a roll of approximately 300 diverse students. Due to our close proximity to Wellington City, we are able to provide our students with the rich learning experiences our capital has to offer. In 2013 we achieved Silver Enviroschools status.

As we continue to reach towards a more sustainable future, our students aimed to get Solar panels installed. We gathered together interested students who could justify reasons why Thorndon school would be a fantastic school for solar panels. At the end of June 2014 the students dreams were realised. We now generate our own energy! Thanks to Schoolgen and the Wellington City Council.

At Thorndon School we have passionate students who care about our environment. This is the Thorndon ‘Earth Nuts’ Envirogroup statement created in 2012:

“Thorndon School is safe, creative, diverse and inspiring. We honour tikanga Maori and celebrate all of the cultural diversity in our community. As role models teachers and students work together to create a sustainable environment in our school”

We look forward to delving into renewable energy education and sharing this with our community.
