Forest Lake Primary School - Hamilton - 2kw
Forest Lake Primary School is a central city primary school in Hamilton and is in walking distance to the Waikato River. The school currently has 247 pupils. There are 8 mainstream classes ranging from year 0 to year 6. There are also 5 Rumaki (Maori-medium) classes ranging from year 1 to year 8. We are an ‘Enviroschool’ with a focus on the natural environment and recycling. We recycle paper, food, plastic and glass.
We are privileged to have a beautiful area of native bush which we have worked hard to nurture and develop through replanting and building a boardwalk. We also have veggie gardens where the students are learning to grow all types of vegetables, and the veggies are cooked by the children to make a yummy soup.
There is a dedicated group of ‘Enviro Agents’ and ‘Power Board Agents’. These main teams consist of 5 main groups, the garden club, the food recycling team the promo team and the power board team. We have a wonderful supportive community who have donated trees and veggies.
A new classroom was built and completed in 2012 and the improvement in warmth and energy efficiency is noticeable. Being part of the Schoolgen programme, the staff and students are very aware on how our behaviors impact on the environment. Each year new staff and students learn about the philosophy of our school with the aim to reduce, reuse and recycle for the next generation.
