How to register/eligibility
Through Schoolgen, schools have the opportunity to register their interest to be selected for a 2kW photovoltaic system.
To be eligible for the installation of solar panels, schools must be:
- A Genesis Energy customer1;
- A primary, intermediate or secondary state school as well as integrated and independent schools;
- Have a demonstrated commitment to sustainability and environmental education2;
- Have an existing building that may be suitable for the PV system (ie planned buildings will not be considered for this round).
Applications to have panels installed are called for from schools on a regional basis every few months. Notices are posted on the website and letters sent to all schools in the selected region, when an application round is announced.
If a school wants to be considered to have the 2kW PV system installed on their roof through Schoolgen, registrations of interest are warmly welcomed and can be made here.
To date Schoolgen has assisted 33 schools to install the free solar panels - nine schools in the Greater Auckland region, seven schools in the Hamilton City area, five schools in Greater Waikato, nine schools in Greater Wellington and three in the Hawkes Bay.
Late in 2009 we will be installing solar panels in nine schools in the Manawatu/Wanganui region.
1 Applications to become a Genesis Energy customer can be made at time of application.
2 Genesis Energy reserves the right to evaluate a school's application for Schoolgen on whatever criteria it deems appropriate.
