Genesis Energy's recent major contribution to energy generation in New Zealand, the 400MW gas-fired combined cycle turbine at Huntly.

Electricity is generated from a variety of sources. In New Zealand, the key forms of electricity generation are thermal (burning coal or natural gas), hydro (water), geothermal (steam) and wind power. Solar energy and marine/tidal energy are renewable options for energy generation, into which much research and development is taking place to see if they could be commercially viable in the future. Genesis Energy generates power from more sources than any other electricity generator in New Zealand - including hydro, thermal and wind.

To meet New Zealand's growth in electricity demand, we at Genesis Energy believe that we need to look at a number of generation options to make sure we can provide the required level of security of supply and generation capacity. This will include increased use of renewable technologies on a large and small scale.
